United Presbyterian Church.
As Lossiemouth grew in the latter half of the 19th century
with the founding of Branderburgh, it was decided to
move the church closer to the centre of population. In
1881 the new church on James Square was completed and
the congregation moved up the hill. In 1900, due to more
reunifications at a national level, the church became
St. James United Free Church and finally St. James Church
of Scotland in 1929. In 1966 structural problems were
revealed in the church and it was decided to move once
again, this time to the old High U. F. Church on Prospect
Terrace which was vacant by that time having united
with St. Gerardine's. During its distinguished history
the church has been served by ten ministers.

St. James has always been known as the fishermen's Kirk
as it was supported to a large extent, though not exclusively,
by the large fishing community of the town. These days
sadly are gone now. The once thriving port is now a
marina for pleasure craft. And so this thriving, self-supporting
church of 350 members is now looking to the future with
fresh vision. Dedicating ourselves to the five purposes
of worship, fellowship, ministry, outreach and discipleship,
we seek to demonstrate the love of God for this community.
God has a purpose for your life, because you
matter to God. Come and experience His love first hand
and discover what God's purpose is for your life.
